Mr Chewy Review

WHN was approached by Mr. Chewy ( www.mrchewy.com) to review a treat for dachsunds (and other canines to!)  She accepted as it sounded like a great idea and everyone in Blogville knows how much she loves Mr. Chewy for our foodable needs.  WE reviewed the Doggie Delicacy Elk antler in the small size and let's just say that the video below shows how much Anna Rose approves of this delicacy. As there was only one in the box, we were forced to share- Chip started off first, then Tasha took a nibble.  The surprise was Anna Rose, who has never shown interest in chews of any kind.  She guards her antler from all enemies foreign and domestic, and walks around looking for a new hiding spot, once Chip or Tasha walk away from it.  (WHN will be ordering more in the July Mr. Chewy order) Please ignore the sound track- WHN mentions PetSmart and we all know what she is like when she is having a blonde moment.  As this is Anna Rose's favorite chew it will be stocked up for her.  It will make a great wedding gift for our bride to be!  Also, the video can be used as a training guide for Catch Me If You Can, as the looks used by Anna to get her slave Daddy to do her bidding,. not once but TWICE!

Thank you, White Dog ARmy and BLogville

It has been only three days since His Majesty, Thai the Magnificent, The Thai Master, left us for the Rainbow Bridge.  WHN is still unable to sleep- no "Mr. Fussy Pants" keeping her up till 4 AM and the house is way too quiet, even with three dachsies in the pack.  The hardest part is meal times- no five bowls, no four bowls, just three bowls again.  No medications, no boney woney liver supplement, no belly bands, no messy beds.  No kitchen command post, no rolling command center.  No musical beds- we can now see the living room floor as there are no longer seven dog beds covering it up waiting for The Thai Master to make his choice.  No more gel packs at bed time, no getting up every fifteen minutes for a drink of water.  No more pill pockets and Tramadol to keep him calm and hopefully pain free.  no more the sound of his nails hitting the ceramic tile in the kitchen, no more supervision and no more opening the fridge.  No more walkabouts and no more happy go lucky grin, as he tried yet again to replicate the movie, The Great Escape.  No more resting his head on her foot while she used the computer, no more sleeping in the office on his special bed, no more removing Chip, Tasha or Anna from the dog bed that Thai wanted to use at that moment in time, irrespective of the fact that there are at least six others in the living room.  No more snuffley snoring no more car rides in the laundry basket and his telling us adamantly that we need to stop NOW so he can poop!  No more cleaning up after him.  WHN thought that she was prepared for Thai's journey to the bridge, but  obviously she has been lying to herself.  No more ear scritches.

We wish to thank all of Blogville for the kind condolences and the cards that have begun arriving.  Without you, WHN would be in even worse shape than she is.  The day before, on Sunday, we had attended the first Rainbow Bridge Walk in Medina, in honor of Ginger.  Thai enjoyed himself immensely- sniffing at other dogs from his camouflage command post, and eating treats, and just being the center of attention.  We had intended to ask our vet, who is involved in the Walk, on Monday to increase his heart medicine as he was starting to have trouble again.  He ate his Monday breakfast and then had a good walkabout on the front lawn- it took him almost an hour, but he made it down to the sidewalk with the biggest grin on his face.  We gave him his morning pills and went to the pool.  When we came home, we found his pills on the floor undigested and tried to give them to him again, but he started vomiting foam.  We knew what that meant and got him to Dr. Parker right away.  We knew on the trip there that there would not be a return trip for His Majesty, not this time and we were shaken by the thought.  Our fears were confirmed with the diagnosis of the lungs again being full of liquid and that his liver was failing.  We had to make a decision, and we did, tears pouring from our eyes as we made it.  I had promised Marcia that we would let her know, so I assumed that Geoff had her phone number in his cell phone (mine had been left at home in the rush to load the DWM into the car). And it wasn't- so I sent him home to get my cell and to make the call, while I held Thai.  I cried and begged him to forgive me for the times I was angry or short tempered with him for his fussiness, for needing me to get up every fifteen minutes of every night to get him water.  I was angriest with myself as I failed him- I was the peep and he was my tough guy.  When the time came, about 20 minutes later, Geoff was still not back, but I went ahead.  Geoff had held me up when Ginger died, so I would help Thai.  I wrapped him in his blankie, and held him as his right front leg was shaved.  I held him as the needle went in and I held him as he took his last breath.   He left being told that we loved him and that we wanted him to stay but knew that he couldn't.  AT least I hope he knows we loved him.  Thai was not a people dachsie at all- too much trauma for him when his original owner died and her daughter didn't want him.  He loved our pack, though and was always happiest in the middle of it.  He went everywhere with us, just like Ginger, Chip Tasha and Anna Rose.  He taught me patience and humility and in Thai, I see myself if I were a dachshund.  I miss him so.

When Thai comes back, in a week or so, his ashes will be buried at the farm of his first love, Miss Marcia (his original foster mom)  She is devastated by his death and asked if he could be buried there and we agreed.

In the photos, you see the memorial garden that we started two months ago when Ginger left for the Bridge.  Look closely, and you will see an addition that arrived last night from The Comfort company, by way of the WDA and their peeps.  (if you are not following Sue and her White Dog Army, please do- they are wonderful friends and a source of comfort and strength in times of sorrow- they epitomize the best of Blogville)

RAINBOW BRIDGE ALERT- The Thai Master (6 August 1996 - 25 June 2012)

This morning at 11 AM, WHN helped The Thai Master to the Rainbow Bridge.  He had started having problems a couple of days ago, and today started throwing up- first his meds and then a lot of foam.  We rushed him to the vet, who told WHN and Dad that his lungs were full of liquid again and that his liver was failing.  Nothing more could be done, so he went to the Bridge, full of spunk and vinegar!  RIP Tough Guy- Mama and Daddy miss you!

BLOGVILLE OLYMPICS

We, the Dachsies With Moxie, are FINALLY posting about the TWO events that we are hosting for this year's BLogville Olympics.  Both of these events are on Monday, 30 July 2012, and we hope to see you all compete, or at the very least, attend to cheer on your favorite athletes in these vigorous events.  Blogville even has a new blog dedicated to our Olympics!!!:  http://petblogginggames.blogspot.com/

First up is the Cross Neighborhood Walkabout- this event came to be in 2009, when Angel Ginger first moved into her new mansion in Medina, OH.  ONE yard was not enough for this princess!  Noooo, she had to be closely snoopervised as  she took care of her daily business, and then she would conduct surveillance operations, sneaking into the adjoining yards of the neighbors on her way to extend the boundaries of her kingdom!  (We have no fence!) Competitors, you will be judged on your abiity to sneak behind enemy lines (ie- your backyard fence) in an attempt to expand your personal kingdoms- AND IGNORING YOUR PEEPS AS THEY CALL YOU TO RETURN! Photos / videos should be of you UNLEASHED and enjoying the joys of walking around free and uninhibited in your royal domains!  Entries are to be submitted starting on 9 July 2012 and ending 18 July 2012!

Our second event is the Catch Me if you can and comes to us from the beautiful Anna Rose, Max's fiancee!  (Here at the DWM mansion, it is called, Daddy Come Catch Me!)  It is a much easier event to master, and have fun at your peeps expense!  It involves tricking your peeps into picking you up!  (Works best for smaller breeds, but larger breeds can demonstrate their ability to outsmart their peeps and get their way!)  Anna does this several times a day- she is quite the expert and that is the reason we have so many photos of her being held by her slave Daddy!  First, you convince your peeps that you want to play with them- cuteness counts here!  Then you turn the tables on them by dashing off, turning around to make sure they are following you and keep doing these two steps until YOU are tired.  Then and only then do you strike a most beguiling pose, which of course invites your peep into picking you up! Easy Peasy!  Again, photos of this event are to be submitted to WHN between 9 and 18 July 2012 at DachsiesWithMOxieMama AT gmail DOTcom

Now, here is the list of the entire Blogville Olympiad, complete with websites and the dates of each event- We encourage everyone to enter as many events as possible!!!!

Why is Tasha SAD? Not even Pink Puppy can help

So Sad, Miss Tasha, with her Duk Duk

Can Pink Puppy help?

Max's bride
Tasha had the most horrific news today- her BFF Miss Cindy is meeting up with Lily Belle and Muffin!  Tasha is petrified that Miss Cindy will forget about her and never want to see her again!  We, the DWM recognize that Miss Cindy is Tasha's BFF, but what can we do to make Tasha better?  Miss Cindy obviously loves mini black and tan short hairs, so Lily Belle, KEEP AWAY FROM HER BAGS! Tasha is willing to share her BFF- so Lily Belle, Muffin and Tasha need to set up a schedule, so that they can share Miss Cindy in a fair and equitable manner

Also, POTP needed for Miss Nina, she is under the weather and we want her to feel better- she is after all our Rottweiler cousin (she owns Aunt Cindy, after all)
dreaming of Max

Why is my sis Tasha sad?

Aunt Cindy, WHY?

14 Dachshunds Perish In Fire

Images of Some Available Dachshunds at Dachshund Idaho Rescue on Adopt a Pet

We're woofless.  Our hearts go out to Karen McCombs, her husband Robert, and their son, Sean, 16, who hail from Fruitland, Idaho.  Mrs. McCombs operates Dachshund Idaho Rescue out of her home there, and it was lost to fire on Saturday afternoon, along with 14 Dachshunds.  She got her 1st dachshund in 1967 and showed them for over a decade, with some champions achieved.  This rescue has going strong since 2003, placing over 100 Dachshunds and dachsie mixes.  Excerpt from The Idaho Statesman:

A Fruitland couple and their son lost just about everything they owned Saturday afternoon, after a fire tore through a single-wide trailer they were renting.
The family were all home at the time of the blaze, but they say they weren't able to act fast enough to save many of the dogs.
"I was asleep. I have bronchitis," McCombs said. She said her son was in the living room, and her husband was in the kitchen. She said the fire started out on the front porch.
"It was just like out of nowhere," McCombs said. "It just burned so fast that we could not get it under control."

McCombs said she was able to save four dogs — three dachshunds and an Akita.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene and provided vouchers for three nights at a motel in Ontario, Ore.

McCombs said she and her husband, both in their mid-60s and on Social Security, would welcome any help. They are staying at the Oregon Inn in Ontario, Room #4. Reach them at 208-695-4761.

McCombs provided their clothing sizes: boys large shirts, 34 x 30 pants, size 11 or 12 men's shoes; size 14 women's clothes and XL men's shirts and 38 x 30 pants.

Please visit the rescue's
facebook page where you can find contact information, as well as an address for donations, which will be posted soon.

WHN is willing to do TWO quilts this time- one for the couple and one for their son who lost everything!   Who's in - who will donate again?

Commemorating the grit of priests and D Day with manly photos

Commemorating the grit of priests and D Day with manly photos
… I contend there is no other religion more manly and burly and punk rock than Catholicism. I know Google forgot, but today is D Day. Eh, they’re a bunch of commies anyway. To honor the occasion and the grit that makes up Catholic priests I offer you these images to consider.
