In Memoriam Robert Gain BLack, Sr (18 December 1928 - 17 September 2009)

Robert Gain Black, Sr (28 December 1928 - 17 September 2009)

Mom and Dad, May 1988

Norwegian Cruise 1999
Five years ago today, my beloved father, Robert Gain Black, Sr, died after a long battle with kidney failure.  He is survived by his wife, Agnes McKenna Black, his eight children and multiple grandchildren.  He was the only child of Olga Andersen Black and Albert Gain Black.  he graduated from Harvard in 1949 and from the University of Virginia Law School in 1956, after serving in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was employed by Grumman for almost 40 years, and was the Director of Federal Legislation.  He retired in 1995 and he and Mom moved to South Carolina soon afterwards.  He is dearly missed and I talk to him every day.  He gave me my love of reading and of history.  He was a great husband and father, and he will never be forgotten.  He insisted that I take Latin and I have always called him Pater since then, amongst other nicknames!)  Besides my husband, of whom he thoroughly approved and who he loved dearly and was dearly loved and respected in return, he is the greatest man that I have ever known.

It's a wonderful tribute and I my tears were running, but you wrote it so well, it feels as I had known him.

I am so sorry Agnes. The pain must be so hard to deal with. I cannot imagine that kind of loss, no matter how many years pass. Lots of love to you too. xo
