The Thai Master Update!
Just back from the vet and the news is NOT GOOD! The Thai Master has arthritis in every bone of his body. His heart is congested so much that it is pushing his trachea out of the way. His back - well IVDD surgery is needed again and not an option. There is fluid in his lungs due to the heart congestion. He is on Vasotec for his heart and if it is going to work, improvement should be seen within 48 to 72 hours. If there is no improvement, the Rainbow Bridge will have a new angel sometime next week.
The Thai Master
The Thai Master appears to be on the mend! He finally went outside late yesterday afternoon and left a "pile" on the front lawn. This, of course, made WHN very happy, especially as his tummy also felt a bit damp! He wolfed down his dinner- not as quickly as in the past, but he ate the entire contents of the bowl, kibble, canned, Milk Bone treats and all! He slept through the night, again with the cooler gel packs underneath his bed liner, and he woke us up at 6 to take care of business. After breakfast, which he again devoured, he started to fuss and his Belly band was full! He just had his Vetri Liver and glucosamine treats, and is walking the perimeter- guarding the kitchen and living room from all enemies foreign and domestic. He is still going to the VET at 3:45- WHN is going to insist on antibiotics for his abcessed tooth and will make an appointment for its removal. Thank you Blogville for your kind thoughts and prayers!

The Thai Master- Update!
1253 hrs EST- His Majesty, The Thai Master is sleeping right in front of his floor fan. At 10 AM EST, he ate his Vetri Liver vitamin and his two glucosamine treats. He also drank a lot of water before going right back to sleep. His belly band is still bone dry, so we are working on getting him to drink more water.
UPDATED!!!! Power of the Paw needed, please- The THAI MASTER
Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!
Over the weekend, The Thai Master has taken a turn for the worse- While he has started sleeping a lot longer and walking far less, this last weekend was a terrible one for him. Bedtime has become a nightmare as it now takes him till1 0r 2 AM to settle down- Sunday night neither he nor us slept a wink- we could not get him to sleep, and he kept panting loudly. It was so bad that I had Geoff sleep in another room just so he could get some rest. WE even tried having Thai sleep in his Command Center (the kitchen) but his fussing was so loud that we gave up and finally had to let him walk around on the bedroom floor the rest of the night. We don;t know what triggered this, it was a hot night but the previous night was far hotter and we had the fans going for him, which always has worked in the past. He had been outside for over four hours walking in the grass and disrupting the outdoor train layout- he caused quite a few derailments. We had thought that the exercise would make him sleep- instead it just riled him up. No amount of medication could calm him down either. Yesterday he did not eat his breakfast nor his dinner- he had trouble chewing his VetriLiver and his glucosamine treats. His belly bands have been dry for 24 hours- no output at all this morning when we took him out. He did eat his canned food, but not his kibble. He falls asleep when he is taken outside to potty, and we have to wake him up. He is drinking water- loads of it- we have to hold the bowl for him so that he doesn't spill it. Yesterday, from 10 AM until 10:30 PM he stayed on his bed, right in front of the floor fan. He drank some but refused his diner. We are trying to get him in to see Dr. Parker today or tomorrow. Please pray for our Tough Guy.
UPDATE- The Thai Master sees Dr. Parker tomorrow at 3:45. (She is not in today) He is sleeping in the office, near the computer desk as he usually does. Hopefully this is just heat related, but if so, we can't figure out the extreme reaction to it- we had the fans going and the ac, and his pain pills gave him no relief. Last night, WHN put six gel packs from a cooler underneath his favorite bed liner and he slept the whole night through.

Memorial Day and our flag: A gentle tutorial for us all
Memorial Day and our flag: A gentle tutorial for us all
The history of this day and its meaning is important to know and remember, lest we forget those who died. We have ceremonies and parades through which are woven the symbols of our pride and patriotism, and our homage to our fallen.
The American Flag plays a prominent role in Memorial Day and all observances of patriotism and fallen soldiers. The flag represents all that these men and woman have died for.
In "Our Flag" Henry Ward Beecher wrote:
"Our flag means, then all that our fathers meant in the Revolutionary War; it means all that the Declaration of Independence meant; it means all that the Constitution of our people, organizing for justice, for liberty and for happiness, meant.
Our flag carries American ideas, American history and American feelings … in its glorious insignia, it has gathered and stored chiefly this supreme idea: Divine right of liberty in man.
Every color means liberty; every thread means liberty; every form of star and beam or stripe of light means liberty: not lawlessness, not license; but organized, institutional liberty, - liberty through law, and laws for liberty!"
The flag means something. When we treat it gently and with respect, it is symbolic of the lives laid down for what that flag represents. When or flag is disrespected, as a nation we cringe, even as we understand that the cloth represents our important and unique First Amendment Rights, we bristle when someone chooses to treat "ole' Glory" with disrespect.
When First Lady Michelle Obama had the honor of attending the Pentagon 9/11 ceremony last year, her chatter during the flag ceremony was followed by a smirk that many interpreted as "all this for a flag?" It revealed a lack of respect for America and her FOTUS role.
And it angered many. A search reveals more than 17 million responses. It means something to us.
But where do our Memorial Day traditions comes from?
Memorial Day is our nation honoring that flag and what it represents. With wreath laying ceremonies and parades, we honor the incredible loss and pain felt by the country during the Civil War, after which women began decorating the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.
This practice spread to the other cemeteries where soldiers laid at rest before the war ended. Proclaimed as a day on remembrance in 1868, it didn’t become a nationally recognized day of remembrance until after World War I.
The wounds between North and South ran deep. Congress made it a legal holiday in 1971.
President Bill Clinton, in 2000, declared a National Moment of Remembrance for Memorial Day. The White House memo said in part, “This memorial observance represents a simple and unifying way to commemorate our history and honor the struggle to protect our freedoms.
Memorial Day represents one day of national awareness and reverence, honoring those Americans who died while defending our Nation and its values."
Some may remember childhood days when Veterans of Foreign Wars would hand out small red paper poppies , assembled by disabled and needy veterans, to be worn in remembrance.
Since 1923, the money raised from those little poppies helps veterans in need. They are still available through the VFW Buddy Poppy program.
The idea of wearing a red poppy on Memorial Day originated with Moina Michael in 1915, inspired by John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918), Canadian Army:
IN FLANDERS FIELD
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row;
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we
The torch; be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
According to the flag code of honor, the flag should be displayed at half staff as a sign of mourning until noon and at full staff from noon to sunset on MAt military cemeteries, like Arlington National Cemetery,an American flag is placed on every single grave.
The traditional time to visit cemeteries or war memorials is at 3PM local time on Memorial Day, which is Monday.
Taps has come to symbolize remembrance of a soldier gone to rest:
"Day is done, gone the sun, from the hills, from the lake, from the skies.
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.
Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, may the soldier or sailor, God keep.
On the land or the deep, safe in sleep.
Love, good night, must thou go, when the day, and the night
Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all to their rest.
Fades the light; and afar goeth day, And the stars shineth bright,
Fare thee well; day has gone, night is on.
Thanks and praise, for our days, 'neath the sun,
Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go,This we know,
God is nigh."
The American's Creed was written by William Tyler Page in 1918 in response to a contest.
"I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the people by the people, for the people, whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a Republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my Country to love it; to support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies."
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.” - Winston Churchill
Memorial Day and our flag: A gentle tutorial for us all
Sunday, May 27, 2012 - Truth Be Told by Carla Garrison
WASHINGTON, May 27, 2012 – Memorial Day is a time for remembering the men and women who died for their Country since the Revolutionary War. Remembering the approximately 1.3 million soldiers , not including those missing in action or wounded who paid the ultimate price for freedom and love of country.
The history of this day and its meaning is important to know and remember, lest we forget those who died. We have ceremonies and parades through which are woven the symbols of our pride and patriotism, and our homage to our fallen.

Mayor Frankie Furter Price- UPDATED!!!!
Today is the day for which Blogville has waited with baited breath! Today is Mayor Frankie Furter Day! At the behest of Miss Ruthie and the K9 Katastrophie, May 25th is Frankie Furter Day, in honor of his outstanding contributions to making Blogville the place that it is today.
His Honor has always been there for all of Blogville's residents, and especially for their peeps. We, the DWM, met HH when we began blogging back in October 2009- he was our very first follower and we started following him. He was enthusiastic as our pack grew in size, and when Dad lost his job last August, he and his peeps were there for WHN and Dad. When WHN started quilting again after a 20+ year hiatus, Miss L, the Furst Mom of Blogville, and Frankie were her greatest supporters. We also had the honor and privilege of meeting His Honor and his peeps in the furs- that was a great day! We watched as he adopted and raised ERnie- what a fine pup he has become. We were there when he wed the two beauties from Canada, Mesdames Ruby and Penny- they shared their love and joy with all of us and have always been there when dark clouds have gathered in our lives, both peep and four legger. When Ginger died, WHN's first response was to reach out to HH and the Furst Mom and they were there for her (as was all of BLogville) Today is Frankie's Day- may it be filled with milk bones, treats and squirrel chasing.
UPDATED!- WHN wants to remind everyone that without Miss L, Furst Mom of BLogville and His Honor, the Fearless Five Quilt would never have happened! WHN and Miss L had been emailing, tossing around ideas, and the brainstorm for the Fearless Five quilt came from Miss Lana herself. She insisted that it be done and was tireless in asking Blogville for help and fabric!

Wedding Update!
Anna Rose is getting primped up for the big day, on a daily basis! Her furs are looking gawjus, as Puddles would say! She will be wearing Ginger's crown- wonder if the Furst Ladies of Blogville will wear theirs?
Now- the wedding itself will be at sunset, as suggested by Mayor Frankie- complete with tiki lights and a bonfire or two!
ERNIE will be the ring bearer and ERNESTINE will be the flower girl. FRANCINE will be a bridesmaid and WHN will be making her dress, to match Tasha's . Amber will be wearing a one of a kind crochet masterpiece made by Anna Rose's future MIL.
The bride and groom do have a request this week- will BOTH PUDDLES and GOOSE officiate at their wedding on the beach? They also want Bert to be part of the ceremony (details to be worked out) and the WDA will be in charge of the bonfires and tiki lights- there are SIX in the WDA pack now! Sasha, Katie, Bailey, LadyBug and Chloe are all bridesmaids- will Nina, Dachshund Nola and all the other ladies accept too?

Wedding Update!
Both of the MILs 2 b (mothers in law 2 b) have decided that it would be best for the wedding to be in Myrtle Beach on 31 December! Ohio will be too cold and probably snowy, and this would make it easier for PUDDLES to appear as officiant! Dad is busy rounding up the available Weinermobiles for Blogville's use so no one has to worry about driving that week. Hotel rooms are being booked- the La Quinta Inns and Suites right on the beach! A second La Quinta, at Broadway at the Beach, has been put on notice!
The alligator farm has been notified, as has Medieval Times- both great places for bachelor/bachelorette pawties.
Our new names!
WHN is in her usual dither! Sarge emailed and told her that we could ONLY be called the following names for an entire week!
Thai- Thai Master
Chip- chip a Dee Doo Dah
Tasha- Tasha Tutu
Anna Rose- Princess Fur.
The reason for the dithering on the part of WHN? Well, she entered the wrong nickname for Anna Rose- Dad's nickname for her is NOT Princess Fur but Furry Princess!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day to all of our BLogville Moms! We had Dad buy a flat of flowers for WHN after Mass this morning- 16 white Geraniums! Anna Rose supervised the planting of 8 of them around Ginger's rose tree and then we had Dad plant the rest in two huge pots! They are called Maverick Whites, and Maverick is what WHN was called by her battalion XO when she was in the Army (yes, after the Tom Cruise character in Top Gun- where the world's greatest fight, the F14 was the real star!)

They're BACK!!!!
Anna Rose just snuck in the front door right now- Max was right behind her. Boy are they sheepish!. Dad is taking Max upstairs for the BIG BOY TALK! According to Max, the horse went lame while they were in Myrtle Beach, visiting with WHN's Mom! Why they couldn't call from there, or use their cell phones, is beyond me! After Myrtle Beach, they were going to head to Florida, so that Anna Rose could meet Max's parents and the rest of the pack. I guess that Grandma was too excited to see the runaways to even consider that we might be woried.
Dad does NOT look happy, but ...... ANNA ROSE AND MAX ARE ENGAGED! Max asked Dad for Anna Rose's paw and Dad agreed! They want to have a Christmas wedding complete with pointsettia and Milk Bone bouquets! Now we have to see if Puddles is available to perform the ceremony. Amber and Tasha will be the maids of honor, Thai and Chip groomsmen. Will Frankie let Ernie be the ring bearer? Will the Furst Ladies of BLogville be bridesmaids? Will Shiloh and Shasta come in their Sopwith Camels again? Nina, the SLimmer Pugs and Chloe and Ladybug are going to be asked to be in the bridal party, as are Bailey, Katie, Finn, the WDA, and everyone! Now, Max has to run home to talk to his pawrents!

Where in the world are Anna Rose and Max?
Now that the Party of the Era is over and our guests have returned safely to their homes- we have been worried. Max and Anna Rose snuck off in the Pumpkin Cinderella carriage Sunday and have not been seen since! Benny, Lily, Chloe and Ladybug did get home safely- Weiner Two was fixed in time for their return trip, but where are our lovebirds hiding? Dad is worried about his little girl- and wants to have a BIG BOY talk with Max! Puddles "borrowed" a Sopwith Camel, after the SLimmers took Sugar back to Hawaii, and the rest of the guests had to contend with Weinermobile 1 and Weinermobile 2 for transport. Shiloh is understandably upset that his Camel is missing again! On top of that, Dad has to deal with the rental agency again, and they are starting to hint that we cannot rent vehicles anymore- two have gone missing in that many months! White Dog Army is back home safe and sound too- they had their own Pumpkin transport!
WHN and WGQ had a blast over the weekend- their embroidery seminar was a blast and they learned os much! WHN promises to post more later this week- complete with photos!

For the Love of Ginger
As the hottest pawty in Blogville (so far this year!) winds down, we spent part of the morning planting a rose tree in memory of our Ginger. The idea came from Sue, the White Dog Army momma, and the WDA brought the tree with them from New Mexico! hot pink roses - ginger's signature color! We kept the roots well watered and so the transplanting went well- lots of rose food and water. WHN cried a bit (what else?) but then when she was peeking at Ginger's tree from her bedroom, realized that she had the perfect view for sleepless nights- she can gaze at the roses from her side of the bed and not disturb our beauty rest! Thank you WDA! WHN is planning on putting in some phlox (similar to what she had two years ago) and lavender, which she is growing from seeds, in memory of Miss April, MeeMoo and Daisy, our newest Rainbow Bridge contingent. This part of the front yard garden will alwasy be a Memory Garden, similar to and inspired by WDA and Amber Da Weenies Mama also. Please enjoy the roses- they are gifts of love to and from Ginger. Rest in Peace, Baby. Mama misses you so much.

Pawty On!
Well, last night was a blast! Puddles lit up the sky, with the help of Team Beaglebratz! We had fireworks for hours and then passed out sparklers so we could dance the night away. fresh supplies arrived almost hourly!
Today was a bit slower- we took a much needed nap to recover before we enter the home stretch tonight before our guests start leaving sometime tomorrow- Miss Nina is our reigning Grande Dame of the ladies of leisure, enjoying the poolside activities and their tanning. Both Karis, from Vegas and Texas, have been helping Nina keep the girls in line! The Slimmer Pugs have been busy- they appear out of nowhere- George and Toby "borrowed" Shasta's plane earlier- is that how Sugar got here from Hawaii? Chip and Thai were kept busy seeing to their refreshments- the ground hog kebobs went fast- maybe Puddles needs to suit up again! The gentlemen huddled a ways away from the pool- we suspect that Baxter's Stinko De Mayo activities had started here and they wanted to enjoy themselves in peace!
ERNIE loved the trains, but boy did he LOVE the Ferris Wheel- we still can't get him off! Miss Sasha took charge of the bumper cars today and showed off her moves- Amber had better watch out! Lovebirds Anna Rose and Max snuck off in the pumpkin carriage and HAVE NOT BEEN SEEN since noon! Chloe and LadyBug double teamed Goose and Bert on the bumper cars and the merry go round was where we found Puddles napping! White Dog Army were everywhere- first the Ferris Wheel, then the Merry Go Round, then the pool for some high diving and finally the bumper cars! Poor Mayor Frankie- he is still caught on the Merry Go Round with Puddles, Calhoun and the Heartbeats, Whitney and Albert, and the rest of the Florida contingent- Miss Madi and Miss Mindy have decided to share a horse and are teasing him about Francine and Ernestine! Muffin and Lily are getting ready to ride the Ferris Wheel again- the bumper cars were too tame for them!
Tonight we will be having a luau, complete with a huge roast pig and hula dancers! Dixie brought dessert and the truck of Mike's Hard Lemonade just arrived for the luau! Sagira and Bokeh are showing off their agility moves, and Tasha will be kicking off the hula contest, and all the ladies will be teaching the lads! Bailey and Katie are supposed to be very good at this dance, so I think we know who the winners will be! Thank heavens that Sugar flew in from Hawaii to teach them this dance! Frankie promises to show off his surf board moves to the crowd! Finn and Benny and Lilly have been chilling by the high dive- did Finn just do what I think she did?
Tomorrow, thanks to the White Dog Army, the DWM will be planting a rose tree in honor of our Ginger. It came all the way from New Mexico and was the special surprise from them- We will be adding flowers in memory of our angels- April, Mee Moo and Daisy, all of whom left us for the Bridge last month. Thank you WDA-

Saturday Night's All Right!
And we start tonight's festivities with a BANG! Last night's fireworks were delayed as Puddles absconded, albeit temporarily (ok, until 8 AM this morning) with Shiloh's Sopwith Camel. We believe that she is now an officially licensed Dachshund/Greyhound pilot! She kept us enthralled with her aerial acrobatics, complete with sparklers! TONIGHT WE PROMISE FIREWORKS! The White Dog Army will be leading off with a conga line, and Lilly and Muffin will be helping out! Finn also will be lending a paw so the boys will have plenty of partners for the dancing afterwards! The Limbo pole is over by the pool so we can take a dip if we can't quite bend low enough (and if we bend too far, we will have a soft landing!) Two more beer trucks have just arrived and the butcher is on his way with brats and schnitzels! More steak for tomorrow!
thankfully, Madi's bail money has NOT been needed! Pumpkin rides will be in the morning- Benny and Lilly are in charge of that- Chloe and Ladyb ug are taking a much needed break and are supervising the Margarita mixing. Frankie is trying to get Ernie away from the trains but is not succeeding! Tomorrow the Ferris Wheel and Merry Go Round arrive, AND THE BUMPER CARS!

PAWTY ON!
Day One events- Weinermobile One made its appointed rounds and picked up the Florida contingent, the SC and NC contingents, and the Ohio contingents. Our friends from Texas arrived safe and sound, as did the White Dog Army and the Slimmer Pugs from Kansas in their Ford Fiesta. Weiner Two broke down, forcing Benny and Lily to arrive in the Pumpkin carriage. Puddles is right now doing aerial acrobatics in Shilo's Sopwith Camel, and she is NOT wearing a parachute- we guess that chandeliers have lost thier interest for our Mighty HUntress. The steaks and ground hog kebabs are on the barbie, and the beer is flowing, as are the Cheetohs. More guests are arriving every our and Dad is having the time of his life showing off his indoor and outdoor train layouts- ERNIE has been put in charge of the outdoor train! Only one chandelier has met with an unfortunate accident- the ceiling plaster collapsed- no one was hurt, but then no one was using it either! Will have to have Blogville PD on the case. Nina is working on her tan by the pool, with the ladies. We will be partyng on through till Monday, so if you missed today, plenty of time to pawty! Tonight, Shiloh and Shasta will be shooting off fireworks from their Sopwith Camels- we hear that Puddles will be helping!
Guests are ARRIVING
Shiloh and Shasta have landed! Look at their great Sopwith Camels- heard that they will be giving rides later! The Cinderella Carriage just pulled up with Chloe and Ladybug and Benny and Lilly too- their Weinermobile broke down!

SHHHHHH- Nina's HERE!
Alright party goers! Nina arrived about 6:30 tonight! we snuck her out of the car while her mom, Blogville's World's Greatest Quilter and WHN got better acquainted! She is snoring in the train room right now!!!!
Pawty - UPDATE!
It has come to Dad's attention that several of our Blogville friends did not know of our pawty and feel that they are not invited. NOT TRUE! This is an OPEN HOUSE PAWTY- all are invited and all can come! It was a spur of the moment idea thrown together at the last minute, so no invites were mailed (but we will do a better job next time)
ALL OF BLOGVILLE IS INVITED! A third Bud Light truck has just off loaded and a second Cheetohs truck is en route! The steaks are here, as are the hot dogs and hamburgers. The pool is set up and we are ready to pawty with Blogville

Pawty List- Updated AGAIN! 10:34 EST
Chloe and Ladybug, our favorite Bichon ladies from NY, are coming! Benny and Lily are going to be picked up by a second Weiner Mobile- no room in the first one! Looks like Sugar is flying in from Hawaii!. The White Dog Army is packed and en route as we type.
Miss Amber, Chip and Thai want to reassure you that NO bouncy house will be at this pawty- we are having a pool with a slide instead! Tasha and Anna have had their baths and are busy ransacking their wardrobes to find their best outfits for their beaus, Max and Shiloh! The rumors concerning pawty crashers extraodinaire Francine and Ernestine have been greatly exaggerated- no one has seen or heard from them since February, so we should be safe. Two more Bud Light trucks are due today and the butcher trucks with the steak that Dad ordered arrives after WHN leaves (we don't want her getting any ideas!) Dad installed chandeliers in every room and has train hats and bandanas for all to wear! Has anyone heard from Blogville PD- are they coming to keep the riff raff out?
UPDATE- Bert the Dog is coming with Goose! Looks like Blogville PD is going to ensure we are safe!
