Happy Birthday Dad!!!!!

Chip and Dad
Today is our Dad's 44th birthday!  Even with five sets of paws, we can't count that high! (WHN is older so she is ANCIENT in comparison to Dad) We of course ensured the sucess of the gifts by giving WHN very specific lists from which to choose and she chose wisely!  First up is a Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock game for Dad, then the Ducky Dynasty Christmas CD and a throw for the couch.  Next up was the turkey car for his train layout- which makes turkey sounds that are quite loud!  We also got him a set of glasses from his favorite movie, "A Christmas Story, and to round out the gifts, WHN gave Dad the mariner's compass wall hanging that she made and tickets to the ST Louis Museum of Transportation.  Our grandpawrents gave him a book about a local railroad and Dad has already started reading it.  Overall, he had a great birthday gift wise, and that is thanks to us!  He had WHN take pictures of each one of us in his train room posing with the turkey car that we gave him.

For the Boys Blog Hop

Today is What's Her Name's day for the latest blog from Madame Samm! Amy, a fellow Canadienne, is our hostess for this wonderful blog hop and she is also a fabulous quilter herself!  Come join me and visit my fellow pawticipants today!

But Mom, I am comfortable!

Ta Da!!!
I was drawn to this blog hop for two reason- first it was for the man in my life and also it would occur just before his birthday!  (The original ending date was 13 November, which is the day before Geoff's birthday but of course it had to be extended due to its obvious popularity!)  As Blogville knows, Geoff is a railroad man and of course one would expect me to make a train related quilt!  (I do have a great pattern but that is for Christmas)  Instead, I opted for something new- paper piecing a mariner's compass oval! I had seen the sample for a class at my favorite store, Jackman's Fabrics in St Louis, and fell in love with it. Unfortunately it involved paper piecing, a technique in which I had absolutely no interest in attempting.  However, Geoff had accompanied me to Jackman's one weekend and he saw me just drooling over the sample and had me sign up to see if I could learn paper piecing.   We paid for the class and Geoff helped me to pick out my fabrics, as the wall hanging was intended for him.  The teacher, Lisa is a wonderful quilter and patient!  I had the most difficult time getting my points even, and I got very familiar with my seam ripper! I was the only student to not finish piecing the oval during class. I was so frustrated, with HBO and Showtime words dancing around in my head, that I shoved the fabric and directions out of sight for a week, convinced that I would never get a handle on it.  When I did sit down to at least finish piecing the oval, I only had to rip out two lines of stitching and was able to piece the entire oval in two hours.  I found that I did enjoy paper piecing, after I remembered Lisa's tips, and will be taking more of her classes.  I finished the borders and quilting today and am very happy with how it came out.  My points are not all perfect but this technique was a challenge and I am so happy that I did not just chuck it in!  Geoff loves how the center medallion turned out and I hope that he loves how the finished product came together!

I am the luckiest girl in the world!

Good morning Blogville! Tasha, Queen of the Urban Jungle reporting in!

Yesterday I received the most wonderful package in the mail, from my wonderful and PERFECT Aunt Cindy!
Imitating Puddles
That is right, MY Aunt Cindy remembered my birthday and ensured that it was a great one!  (Take a hint WHN!)
Dad helped me open the package this morning- for some reason he forgot about it until today, even though it arrived yesterday!
The package had the most delicious smells so I put on my Puddles' hat and dove right in, just like the mighty huntress herself.  No beer or cheetohs, but what wonders did this package hold!
First up were TWO humungous Greenies, just for me!  Second there were two packages of specialty treats that I will be sharing with the others, as Aunt Cindy is the world's best treat maker as well as the world's best quilter!
Then the piece de resistance- an original Aunt Cindy bandanna just for me!  In my signature color- Tasha pink!  I look GAWJUS in it!  I bet Shiloh will think so too!
Here I am modelling the latest in hawt couture from Aunt Cindy

Then the bestest card from my cussins, Millie the Magnificent and Walter the Wonderful!
Posing with all my loot!

I had to make sure that the Greenie was made properly so I snatched one and ran off to my favorite snacking place, the loveseat!

Aunt Cindy, you are the greatest!!!!!

BTW, WHN is home and driving us nuts-  She came through her "ordeal" just fine and is now making us suffer for it- we had to sleep with her on the couch last night so she could prop up her leg without any of us walking on it- as if we would do that (ok, so I walk all over her at night, but only until I have driven the bed badgers out of it first).  Thankfully Dad is home today to intervene on our behalf!

BTW- since I love Aunt Cindy so much I am going to have her make the rest of the pack bandannas for Christmas!  Maybe you should have her make you and your pack some too?

Happy All Saints Day!

Today is the Feast Day of All Saints- a Holy Day of Obligation for all Catholics.  WHN and Dad will be making their way to Mass tonight.

We had a blast for Halloween- we all had costumes and wore them!  (OK, Hope and Anna  wore theirs for more than an hour, but Tasha, Chip and Snoopy managed to strip very quickly)  Tasha and Anna were the world's most beautiful cheerleaders, Chip was a Rufferee, and Snoopy and Hope were pirates.  Hope is still in her costume too, complete with glow in the dark writing on it that states Trick ARRR treat!  Dad was the Dachs Commander, complete with beard and bandanna.  This was Snoopy, Anna, and Hope's first Halloween with the DWM and WHN did manage to get some photos and will post them over the weekend.  It had rained for the past two days and yesterday it poured, but we still had a lot of visitors.  Dad set up on the porch with his fog machine and strobe lights, and his music- the kids loved what he had for them. WHN bought too much candy and hopes that she can return the unopened bags.  We lucked out- we slept through the worst of the crowds but were rewarded with chicken nuggets for dinner!

We know that we have not been blogging regularly- we are owned by WHN after all! While we have not been present, we have mourned the passing of our beloved friends- Quinn, Nuka, Pip, Gracie and Benny being the most recent losses.

HOWEVER, we do have a real excuse and it is NOT due to WHN's depression  (ok, not totally)- Remember when she "fell" back in August?  Apparently, she tore the meniscus tendon in her right knee and will be undergoing surgery to repair it this coming Thursday.  It is outpatient surgery and she will be home that night and she should recuperate quickly.  How this affects us we have not yet determined but our nap and snack schedules had better not be changed- we get cranky if that happens and Hope is very fussy about her needs and wants.  She practically lives under WHN's shirt- and in the sling no less!  This makes taking care of the rest of the DWM challenging- Chip is still not a fan but the girls are very good with her, especially Anna, and Snoopy is Snoopy!   He likes her but is very cautious.  He too is now on "happy pills" and will be treated by an animal behaviorist starting November 15th- his aggression is starting to get the better of him so we are going to take care of the Snoopster. He and WHN take their "happy pills" together every morning- part of our routine.

WHN will be very busy this weekend getting placemats done before her surgery- then once she is fully recuperated the Slimmer Pugs stockings and the family Christmas gifts get done!  AND she has tons of tea lights for Paws 2 People to make too- Hopefully this surgery is the last of the medical issues for WHN this year- we need a break!
