The Look of GUILT!

WHN had a good time at her embroidery party!  She came home tired and after dinner, TASHA insisted that they enjoy some quality cuddle time, complete with sling!  Today, Tasha and Anna Rose will be nursing Dad as he has a terrible cold, while Chip guards the family while WHN again abandons us! (WHN thought that Dad was taking a photo of Tasha, but he fooled her!)  Tasha is now drinking on  her own- thanks to the low sodium chicken broth being added to the food- this morning WHN also gave everyone kibbly bits in their bowls!

Please head over to the blog of our beloved WDA- http://whitedogblog.blogspot.com/    - cheer them on as today is their cancer walk!  WHN made a lap quilt for their auction and she hopes they are able to raise 87 billion dollars!

WHN is abandoning us!

WHN is so cruel!    She is not the good mommy that Blogville knows!  She is abandoning us!  She is going to Jackman's Fabrics for a two day Anita Goodesign machine embroidery class and leaving us home alone!  (Dad will be here, but she is our official slave, so that does not count).  Dad has Tasha's crate ready in the basement, so he can keep a close eye on her- no jumping out of her carriage for Dad- he is busy getting his train layout up for his BFF drinking buddy Puddles-  BTW- we don't need no stinking chandeliers here for a Blogville bash- we have the Arch!

Tasha is improving slowly- she is sleeping on the Big Bed at night and is wolfing down her canned foodables, and her meds are well mixed in so she doesn't even know!  Getting her to drink is another matter- WHN is using a baby syringe to "force" the water into her system every few hours- Dr Medling agrees and wants her to try low sodium chicken broth today! And she p***** yestderay with no problem!  WHN was very excited- is she becoming the Kerazy Lady that Puddles has to live with?  Inquiring minds want to know!  Right now Tasha is snoozing in her baby sling, but the cries of outrage will commence soon!

OMD- WHN received a call from the nicest woman yesterday- a world famous quilter, Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt (her blog badge is at the top of our blog!)  WHN signed up to participate in a couple of blog hops this November- one is for a coin purse and the other is a pillow and she will be posting photos of her pieces when they are ready!  Mdm Samm is simply wonderful and if you sew or craft, you should follow her blog- she oprganizes blog hops but has great tutorials that WHN uses and they are great!  WHN's quilting and sewing has improved quite a bit this year thanks to blogs like Mdm Samm's- just like BLogville.  So, everybuddy go say hello to Madam Samm!

Tasha Queen of the Urban Jungle- POTP Update! UPDATE 1400hrs CST

Her Majesty, Tasha Queen of the Urban Jungle, is doing better!  She is still enjoying the baby sling as she is on crate rest, and is eating quite well!  The meds are making her lethargic and she is not drinking as much water as WHN would like, so she gets water via a baby syringe!  WHN fills it up every couple of hours and slowly injects it into Tasha so she can drink it down without choking.  Called the vet with an update and just waiting for a return call- She takes care of her business ok, but has not pooped yet since she has been on the medications.  She also is still quiet, probably due to the meds, but when she walks, she is her usual perky self.  She again slept on the bed and curled up under one of her numerous blankies for the night.

UPDATE!!!!!   1401 hrs CST

Her Majesty is relaxing in her rolling command post, catching up on her beauty sleep!  AND she has pooped! no problems in that area, so to speak!  WHN is exhausted now! Still waiting for the vet to call back so she can bring her up to date on this development! ANd she also barked at Barney when WHN took everyone out for a "break"- she was in her sling but gave him a talking to, let me assure you!  (Barney is the neighbors 11 yr old beagle- he is NOT doing well- hurt his front paw somehow and has permanent nerve damage and his rear legs are wobbly now too- please keep him in your prayers) Tasha is enjoying all of the extra attention, but Chip and Anna Rose are a bit unhappy about this situation!

POTP request- Tasha Queen of the Urban Jungle UPDATED!!!!

Yesterday morning, right after putting together the post on Chip,  WHN noticed that Tasha, Queen of the Unstuffed Stuffed Squeaky Toys was not herself.  No barking at the neighborhood to tell them to get their lazy butts out of bed and get to work, no barking at Barney, no barking during breakfast to clear her lungs out- just quiet cuddle time Tasha.  She did take care of business and ate her breakfast, but then whined until WHN picked her up and rolled her into a blankie and held her for a couple of hour (you try using a computer holding a large 13 lb sausage shaped blankie!)  The quiet was unnerving as was the totally laid back Tasha.  WHN of course panicked and got Her Majesty to the vet, leaving Chip and Anna Rose home to guard the fort (and yes, we made her pay for that)  Our new vet, Dr. Medling gave her a thorough neurological exam- checking all four legs, spine and neck.  Tasha has some discomfort in the middle of her spine, and her front legs, which are shorter than they should be and are turned out a little (not every one is a show dachshund!)  Her neck is fine as are her rear legs. She is in no obvious pain- no yelping during the examination, just tightening up of her body.  She is mobile and does not tuck her tail at all.  She is now on crate rest and meds for two weeks and will have xrays at her follow up exam on October 10th.  She may simply have sprained her back during regular activities, she may be experiencing the onset of the joys of arthritis.  We will do what we have to for Her Majesty.

While we know that dachsies are prone to back issues, Tasha is the first one to actually have them while in our care.  Thai came to us with loads of back and other health issues; Ginger had experienced two back episodes with crate rest and meds before coming to rule over us, Anna and Chip have yet to show signs of any back related issues.

She is ensconced in Ginger's pink mobile throne and covered in blankies to keep warm (she is the only member of the pack who loves to burrow under blankets) .  She is on two meds-  Tramadol three times a day and another twice a day, to be taken with food. We tried having her spend the night in the throne, but she was too restless so she slept at the foot of the bed, on her back as usual.  WHN slept with her as she wanted to be held and pet until she fell asleep.

Please keep our Tasha in your prayers (and yes, her BFF Aunt Cindy knows!)

UPDATED!!!  0844 CST- In this latest photo- Tasha is modelling the latest crate rest technique, and yes it was approved by our vet!  WHN had purchased  a baby sling to use while administering Anna Rose's sub cutaneous fluids while Dad was gallivanting around St Louis and its breweries with his BFFFFF Puddles.  WHN asked Dr. Medling if the sling could be used for crate rest since it would immobilize Tasha and Dr M said yes as long as Tasha did not mind- As you can see, Tasha is loving being held in her fleece and flannel blankie while in the sling!  Maybe WHN can sew today, but housework is definitely out!

Winnie's Dog Blog: Celebrating friendship - with blogs and a bag

Our bestest greyhound friend, Winnie, is having a great giveaway and she has also linked to a fundraiser in the UK to help save greyhounds and lurchers from being PTS!  Please rally round and donate!  WE are!

Winnie's Dog Blog: Celebrating friendship - with blogs and a bag

Celebrating friendship - with blogs and a bag

I never cease to be amazed and delighted by the bonds of friendship that are created through blogs.

When the Lady Of the House started me blogging soon after I arrived here in my forever home (two years ago last month) I never dreamed where it would lead. Our lives feel so much richer for the people we've met through blogging and the laughter (and tears) we've shared. I feel as if many of you are real friends - even though we've never met.

For a few weeks now the LOTH and I have wanted to do something to celebrate how thankful we are for that friendship. So this is what we've decided.

One of the LOTH's bestest ever friends is called Carol - and she is VERY clever when it comes to quilting. She made the LOTH a lovely quilt and a bag for her birthday and she makes lots of bags both as gifts for loved ones and as raffle prizes to raise money for charity.

She made us this beautiful bag and said we could use it however we wanted - so we thought it would be nice to offer it as a gift to one of our blogging friends. It was made with love by Carol and it will be sent on with lots of love from me and the LOTH too.

It's just a little gift, and it can only go to one person - but I'd like it to represent the gratitude we feel to all of you who have supported us over the last 24 months with your comments and your friendship.

If you look closely you can see quite a lot of the dogs whose blogs we visit - I can see Dachsies, and Scotties... and is that a French Bulldog among others?

Carol said she did try to find some material with greyhounds on - but didn't find any that she felt did us justice. I quite understand. Besides, I might not have let the LOTH give it away then.

So if you are a follower of my blog - and you'd like to receive this bag as a gift of love and thankfulness from me and the LOTH - just leave a comment below in the next week. We'll send it anywhere in the world (it's very light).

Today is also a special day for one of the best friends any pet blogger could have - PIP!

You can read all about his special day here on Frankie Furter and Ernie's blog and also about the special day when Pip came to his forever home - here. It's a lovely story about the triumph of love and hope. Enjoy it.

And last but NOT least...one of my great blogging friends is Suzy. Her son Marc has TODAY started a coast to coast walk in aid of Greyhound Gap - a small but very important UK charity which rescues and rehabilitates and then rehomes greyhounds and lurchers across the UK who are otherwise at risk of being put to sleep.

You can follow their progress over the next 10 days at
Suzy's blog, or on their Facebook Page. If you can spare them even just a few pennies, there is an online page HERE where you can donate, It would mean a lot to Greyhound Gap.

Obama In 1998: "I Actually Believe In Redistribution"

Look what WHN made

Now, WHN's Baby Lock is in for warranty repairs this week- she should be getting it back sometime late next week.  (it wasn't embroidering correctly- so off to Baby Lock she goes)  She still has her Janome for sewing and quilting, so she will be out of our furs for a while!  Since getting back in the swing of sewing in the last couple of weeks, WHN tried her hand at hexagons!- She found this magazine at Joann's and loved the cover but was afraid to try hexies since they require hand sewing and paper piecing- instead, she tried using starch and heat resistant mylar for her templates!  First she cut out four hexagon patterns from the mylar, then cut out the hexagons from a charm pack, so she could alternate them as she went.  (a charm pack is 42 squares of coordinating fabric cut in 5 inch squares)  then she used starch and an iron to set the 1/4 inch seam allowance on the mylar templates, then sewed each hexagon together in rows of ten, and then each row together- Finally she had to add the batting and the backing before quilting- The hexagons cutting and starching took place while watching movies with Dad and the actual sewing occurred while Dad was at work.  She plans on making a Halloween one and a Christmas one too (Dad helped her pick out the charm packs already!)

Robert Gain Black, Sr (28 December 1928 - 17 September 2009)

Mom and Dad, May 1988

Norwegian Cruise 1999
Three years ago today, my beloved father, Robert Gain Black, Sr, died after a long battle with kidney failure.  He is srvived by his wife, Agnes McKenna Black, his eight children and multiple grandchildren.  He was the only child of Alga Andersen Black and Albert Gain Black.  he graduated from Harvard in 1949 and from the University of Virginia Law School in 1956, after serving in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was employed by Grumman for almost 40 years, and was the Director of Federal Legislation.  He retired in 1995 and he and Mom moved to South Carolina soon afterwards.  He is dearly missed and I talk to him every day.  He gave me my love of reading and of history.  He was a great husband and father, and he will never be forgotten.  He insisted that I take Latin and I have always called him Pater since then 9 amongst other nicknames!)  Besides my husband, of whom he thoroughly approved and who he loved dearly and was dearly loved and respected in return, he is the greatest man that I have ever known.

Our dear friend Molly the Wally!

We, the Dachsies With Moxie, as well as Blogville, have a great furiend over in England- Molly the Wally!  Yesterday, she had the bestest post ever- all about dachshunds!  Puddles was involved, as a model, so you know how good the post was!  We took the liberty of adding the link to our blog here and cut and pasted the post for your reading pleasure.  Please take the time and go say hello to this great furiend of ours- her blog is one of our favorites and a daily must read!

http://mollythewally.blogspot.com/2012/09/dog-blog-top-ten-dachshund-facts.html

Dog Blog, Top Ten Dachshund Facts!

The Dachshund’s a dog of German descent,
Whose tail never knew where his front end went?
1 They say word ‘Dachshund’ means badger dog as Dachshunds were originally bred to hunt badgers in Germany. This is not true, the Dachshund is German for dat hound. The Dat-hund is called dat hound because it is just that, dat hound. The breed is sometimes called a dash-hound due to their ability to dash everywhere, particularly when some food may have been dropped. They are also called Weiner dogs due to the fact that they wee and Doxie which is German for doggy. They should never be called a hotdog as A/ they are not hot (temperature wise) and B/ they do not fit in a bun but they are a Hot Dog. We hope we have now have put you straight about the name Dat Hound!
2 Dachshund are born speaking German. Quickly they grow up to be bi-lingual. The first word you must learn is the word nein. Nein is a word most peeps think means no, however in the world of the Dat Hound it means nine. Nine is the doxies’ favourite number. Thus when you are reprimanding your doxie with the no word you are really offering your doglet nine pets on the head, nine treats, nine walkies etc etc. Therefore to avoid confusion you should never use the no/nein word to your weiner. Yes or Ya on the other hand is quite acceptable and will not result in any confusion whatsoever. Thus to re-cap never say no always say yes.
3 No to be confused with the word nein is the word mine which is a word dear to the heart of any Doxie. There are several simple rules which apply to the use of the word ‘mine’.
Dachshund Rules Or Ode To Reuben!

1. If I like it, it's mine.
2. If it's in my mouth, it's mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it's mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.
5. If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I'm chewing something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it is mine.
8. If I saw it first, it's mine.
9. If I saw it last, it’s mine.
10. If you are playing with something and you put it down,
it automatically becomes mine.
All Mine! Oh and if it’s broken it’s yours!

4 The term Napoleon Complex was not coined for General Bonaparte but for one of the dachshunds he owned on the island of Corsica, who he referred to as Napoleon. This miniature male was very dominant and picked unprovoked fights with large dogs and often winning.
This little dog with ten inch clearance,
Presents a ludicrous appearance,
His legs are bowed, his feet turn out,
He gives us much to laugh about.

He's two dogs long, a half dog high,
In spite of which he's quick and spry,
So at his funny build don't smirk,-
It's perfect for his special work.

For Dachshund plays a hero's role,
In going down a badger's hole,
A badger is a savage fighter,
A vicious scratcher and a biter.

And folks who call him ‘dash-hound’ show,
Their ignorance and do not know,
That dox-hoont is his proper name,
In Germany from whence he came.
5 Cleopatra, Plato, Picasso, Napoleon, Queen Victoria, Joan Crawford, Marlon Brando, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, and John Wayne have all owned dachshunds.

6 The dachshund has the senses of a skilled hunter. Their noses are able to pick scents that are up to a week old. The hearing of a dachshund is four times more sensitive than that of a human.
You might be a dachshund
if you’re tail is longer than you are tall,
if you’ve heard all the sausage dog jokes a 87 gazillion times each,
if every Halloween your human drags out the Hot Dog costume,
if you have trouble seeing over the grass if Mr.Mower is more than a couple of days late,
if you’d rather take a nap under your favorite blanket than harass the family cat,
if you’re constantly referred to by strangers as the ‘wiener dog’,
if you have trouble finding sweaters with sleeves that you don’t trip on while walking,
if you’d rather leave a special present for your human in the middle of the hallway than trample through wet cold grass in the morning,
if you think the world should revolve around you,
if the world actually does revolve around you!

7 Dachshunds are ingenious and clever dogs that attempt to train their masters. They are naturally curious which makes them funny to observe and they are lively, energetic, and prone to loud barking.

8 The Dachshund can be rash, bold, and impressively courageous. They can be seen constantly in a tireless pursuit of curiosities and misadventures.

Life lessons learned from a Dachshund:

1. If you stare at someone long enough, eventually you'll get what you want.
2. Don't go out without ID.
3. Be direct with people; let them know exactly how you feel by piddling on their shoes.
4. Be aware of when to hold your tongue, and when to use it.
5. Leave room in your schedule for a good nap.
6. Always give people a friendly greeting. A cold nose in the crotch is most effective.
7. When you do something wrong, always take responsibility (as soon as you're dragged shamefully out from under the bed).
8. If it's not wet and sloppy, it's not a real kiss.

9 The Dachshund's defining feature is its long body and short legs. This breed comes in three varieties, including wirehaired, shorthaired and long haired. Dachshunds belong to the AKC hound group.
How Dachshunds and Men are the same:

1. Both take up too much space on the bed.
2. Both have irrational fears about vacuum cleaning.
3. Both mark their territory.
4. Neither tells you what's bothering them.
5. The smaller ones tend to be more nervous.
6. Both have an inordinate fascination with the remote control.
7. Neither does any dishes.
8. Both fart shamelessly.
9. Neither of them notice when you get your hair cut.
10. Both like dominance games.
11. Both are suspicious of the postman.
12. Neither understands what you see in cats.

10 Although loving and extremely loyal the stubborn sausage dog can sometimes be difficult to train. They tend to be a bit high-spirited, and they love to dig, so be sure to watch your garden for holes.
A smooth-haired Dachshund and a long-haired Dachshund were walking down the street. The smooth turned to the longhair and complained, “My life is such a mess. My owner is mean, my girlfriend is having an affair with a wirehair and I’m as nervous as a cat." “Why don’t you go talk it over with a psychiatrist?” asked the longhair. “I can’t,” replied the smooth. “I’m not allowed on the couch.”
All pictures belong to our top model Puddles D Rainwater over at 3 Doxies.

Thank you Puddles for allowing us to show off all of your lovely gorgeousness!

The long and the short of it...don’t you just love them!

what a weekend!

At the Lourdes Grotto at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

View of the Arch from the Mississippi River Saturday

Sunday at the Arch

Anna Rose's chariot for the wedding!
We had a super duper busy weekend!  First we went to Illinois to visit a Catholic shrine- the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville.  It was less than an hour long drive from our mansion and we enjoyed a great snooze in the sunshine- WHN had turned off the ac Friday since it was so cool outside!  We had a swalk around the grounds of the shrine and then we were whisked off to Wally World and then home for snackies and dinner.  Sunday we were dragged out early for a morning swalk in the neighborhood and then left in the car while the peeps attended Mass, and then they had a surprise for us- they took us to the Gateway Arch for a nice long swalk along the Mississippi River!  Anna Rose enjoyed herself immensely- she was admired by her adoring subjects, as she was pushed along in her rolling command post!   The weather was great- in the mid 70s and WHN has all of the windows in the house open!

As promised we have a surprise for our fans- remember that we hinted about something tremendous having to do with driver's licenses and WHN?  Well look closely at her photo with us at the Arch- SHE CUT OFF HER LONG HAIR!  She did this right before we moved from Ohio, and Tasha thinks it is because WHN wanted to look like Aunt Cindy so Tasha will stop trying to run away to NY!  What do you think?

WHN has been busy- the top of the quilt for the WDA is done!  Now she just has to layer it, quilt it and bind it and get it in the mail by Friday!  She also tried her hand at hexagons- she found a pattern in a quilt magazine and the table runner came out great- Dad loves it! Next up is the Slimmer Purrs project, some Bible covers for her Women of Grace group in Ohio, and some other stuff that she cannot remember!  (She is blonde after all!)

WHN will be starting the wedding dress of the century next week- it is going to make Kate Middleton's look like a dish rag!  Lots of tulle and ribbons and flowers!  Tasha will be wearing hot pink satin and bright blue tulle!  Amber Da Queenie will be wearing a crocheted creation made by her Mama, and then WHN will be starting the tuxedos for the men in the wedding pawty!  Then she has to make the bridesmaids their sashes- she needs to know necksizes and favorite colors for each rbidesmaid!

Who's the stranger with the DWM?
