Now, WHN's Baby Lock is in for warranty repairs this week- she should be getting it back sometime late next week. (it wasn't embroidering correctly- so off to Baby Lock she goes) She still has her Janome for sewing and quilting, so she will be out of our furs for a while! Since getting back in the swing of sewing in the last couple of weeks, WHN tried her hand at hexagons!- She found this magazine at Joann's and loved the cover but was afraid to try hexies since they require hand sewing and paper piecing- instead, she tried using starch and heat resistant mylar for her templates! First she cut out four hexagon patterns from the mylar, then cut out the hexagons from a charm pack, so she could alternate them as she went. (a charm pack is 42 squares of coordinating fabric cut in 5 inch squares) then she used starch and an iron to set the 1/4 inch seam allowance on the mylar templates, then sewed each hexagon together in rows of ten, and then each row together- Finally she had to add the batting and the backing before quilting- The hexagons cutting and starching took place while watching movies with Dad and the actual sewing occurred while Dad was at work. She plans on making a Halloween one and a Christmas one too (Dad helped her pick out the charm packs already!)

I *love* it! The fabrics you used are just darling ... GREAT job!!! :)
WAY to complicate for my MOM. As I may have mentioned she uses a stapler and duct tape when she sews.
