WHN is HOME!!!!

Dr Snoopy here!

Dad brought WHN home several hours ago, and of course I had to conduct a very thorough post operative examination-and learned to my relief that WHN had not forgotten her primary duties with regards to her dachshunds and beagle baby.  We graciously allowed her to take a three hour nap, completely snoopervised by all four of us, in case she fell out of the bed.

WHN is not allowed to do any lifting and of course no housework (please stop laughing- we all know she doesn't do any at all)  and is on lots of pain meds to help her heal.  The drain is almost a foot long and she has lots of new surgical scars, so no bikini this year! She sees the surgeon again Wednesday for her follow up, and opefully will have the date for the next surgery.

WHN needs our prayers

Tomorrow, WHN goes in for her first surgery. Dr. Snoopy has refered her to a good surgeon, and she has to be at the Hospital tomorrow morning at 6:30.

Dad will keep Blogville posted.

WHN UDATE!!!!!!

Dr Snoopy here!

WHN is home from the surgeon , to whom I referred her for a second opinion.  He of course agrees with my diagnosis -  the bile duct sphincter, which is how the bile duct is attached to the intestine, is not working properly, so surgery is indicated!  (the other option is that there are roving gall stones from the February surgery lurking around, but the MRCP test results were not back so it could be either diagnosis, both of which require this surgery.)

Since WHN had a gastric bypass back in 2011, she needs to see a gastrointestinal specialist, and there is only one such specialist in St Louis!  So, on Thursday, Dr. Scott will assist me as I surgically insert a drain tube while WHN is under anesthesia.  (Dr Scott is the colleague who gave WHN her second opinion today).  Then, in two weeks, the other specialist will do whatever it is that he does, under my supervision of course, and then WHN goes home for a while.  Nurses Tasha, Anna and Sweetie will then have their paws full taking care of WHN.  Two weeks later, I will then be removing the drain with Dr Scott assisting.

So please keep Dad and us in your prayers as we all know how WHN gets!

Secondly,  Lily Belle and Muffin lost their beloved grandfather today!  Please keep them and their pawrents in your prayers!

Today!

Today is the day that WHN finally finds out if and when she will need more surgery.  She continues to suffer from terrible upper abdominal pain, and Dad had to take her to the emergency room twice last week.  We kept her close to our paws all weekend- Dad insisted that she stay home and relax, but instead she had another flare up Saturday right after confession, so she had to stay home Sunday and mis attending Mass.  (Dad almost took her back to the er, it was that bad)
Doctor Snoopy prescribed lots of couch time with him;  Head Nurse Tasha slept on her shoulder and under her bathrobe to ensure that she went no where; nurses in training Sweetie and Anna kept a close eye on the multiple trips to the bedroom and ladies- WHN is a terrible patient.  She was also on a clear liquid diet- nothing solid but lots of chicken broth, which made her sick Saturday, popsicles and jello.

Also please keep Lily Belle in your prayers- she had her rear paw operated on Friday and is slowly healing!

POTP for WHN UPDATED!!!!!

We, the DWM, also now known as Dachs and Beagle (as in lox and bagel), are asking for POTP for WHN.  For the past several weeks, she has again been experiencing a great deal of upper abdominal pain, similar to what she experienced right before and after her gall bladder surgery back in February.  She sees the surgeon again today, and yes no one can figure out what is going on with her.  She gets the pains every time she eats, and it is painful to watch and hear.  Sometimes she has a day or two break between attacks, but then they return worse than ever, so off to the people vet she goes today.

Head Nurse Tasha has things under her paw, with the assistance of Nurses Anna and Sweetie.  Doctor Snoopy is closely snoopervising her too, and follows her everywhere, backed up by Nurses Anna and Sweetie.

UPDATE

WHN needs to have an MRCP- a type of MRI.  Apparently a gallstone or two are lurking around in the ducts when the gall bladder was removed on 13 February and this test will confirm that diagnosis.  If this is so, guess who is having surgery again (and your first two guesses do not count!)  The surgery is outpatient and occurs in three stages- the gall bladder surgeon inserts a tube in the abdomen, then seondly sends WHN  off to a liver specialist who will also sedate WHN and will flush out her abdominal cavity and thus removing any lurking gall stones. Third, the tube stays inside for about a month for drainiage, so WHN will be unable to do any housework (stop laughing Blogville) or lift anything and that means NO SLING TIME for us!

And y'all thought that the scar of death that Puddles has was terrifying!  CAn you imagine how terrible our lives will be for a month!
